Common Treatments for Fixing Tooth Decay

At Complete Dental Care Group PLLC, crowns and bridges are common dental treatments for repairing tooth decay. Crowns help restore a tooth that has been significantly damaged. A custom-sized cap (crown) is placed over the old tooth. We specialize in cosmetic and restorative dentistry services using crowns and bridges in place of broken, damaged, or decaying teeth.

Put your trust in our clinic’s 25+ years of experience for safe and effective care. Same-day and emergency appointments are available. Our prices are competitive, too.

We accept most PPO and insurance and Medicare/Medicaid plans, so we make paying for your oral health care as painless as possible. Call for an appointment.

How Bridges and Crowns Work Together

Crowns may be used to complete a dental bridge. Bridges fill gaps that result from missing teeth. When a patient has one missing tooth, a dental appliance (bridge) anchors to the two adjacent teeth. Those abutment teeth are reshaped by our dentist before the bridge is secured in place. The abutment teeth are topped with crowns which attach to the new artificial tooth – the middle piece of the bridge.

The Crown – A Versatile Treatment Option

It’s common knowledge that the first line of defense for treating a cavity is a filling. However, deeper decay may require more extensive repairs. In cases such as these, our dentists may rely on a dental crown or cap to solve the problem.

Crowns are versatile treatment options. In addition to protecting vulnerable teeth from further decay, they may cap damaged teeth and cover deep fillings. Crowns often complete dental implants or cover teeth treated with root canals.

There are many reasons to choose a dental crown as part of your oral health care. Some patients choose dental crowns to avoid further damage or decay to an existing tooth or to maintain an aesthetically pleasing smile. Crowns also help prevent tooth loss that could lead to additional oral health problems – and more expensive dental work.

In fact, dental crowns can help you maintain a normal bite and keep the rest of your teeth from shifting.

It may take a few appointments before you’re ready to receive your crown. In some cases, the dental crown procedure is part of another dental treatment plan, such as a root canal.

Whatever leads you to the point of needing the crown, rest assured that we’ll work with you – the patient – and our dental lab to craft custom-fitting dental crowns that restore your natural tooth’s shape and size almost perfectly.

The Dental Crown Process

Before embarking on creating a dental crown, one of our dentists will treat any infections, fill any cavities, or address other underlying problems related to the damaged or diseased tooth. If there’s an old crown to be replaced, the old one will be removed.

To prepare your tooth for the crown, we’ll file down the tooth to make room for the crown. Next, we’ll make a series of impressions to send to the lab for creating the crown. To protect what remains of the tooth, a temporary crown may be placed.

Once the lab has created the crown, you’ll return to our clinic to have it placed. After the dentist approves the look and fit of the crown, he’ll use dental cement to secure it in place permanently.

Rely on us to answer your questions and provide information about how to clean, care for, and maintain your new crown.
